Analogue Photography

Steff Jamieson’s practice plays with the possibilities and limitations of the analogue photographic print, whilst highlighting the agency of light. Driven by an interest in the tactility of making, she acknowledges the darkroom as a site of production and performance.

By combining the fold as a methodology alongside the harnessing and controlling of light, exposure and photographic chemistry Jamieson explores the materiality and sculptural qualities of the print. Stripping photography back to its fundamental properties and bringing to the fore the agency of light as a form of inscription and pattern making

Moving between premeditated pattern and spontaneous making, the rhythm of folding results in a series of abstracted photographic objects, each in turn unique.
